Review: Hancock -- a homeless, drunk Superman

The movie Hancock reinvents Superman as a homeless drunk in need of rehab.

Although the defamation of the perfect superhero is sadistically entertaining, the film was among Will Smith's worst.

Jason Bateman, who plays a PR agent, Ray, who is trying to fix Hancock's image, brings with him all the passivity and awkward humor found in his work with the TV series "Arrested Development."

The acting wasn't off, but it felt like some of the plot's twists needed a few more scenes to explain the relationship between Hancock and Ray's wife, played by the beautiful Charlize Theron.

The film's unbelievable amount of destruction turns the few semi-serious scenes into moments of jaw-dropping, "O-crap" giggles.

It opens with John Hancock, played by Smith, destroying a handful of cars, a few roads, skyscraper rooftops and some type of monument in a drunken rage that punishes gunners trying to escape in an SUV.

The superhero's careless interventions cause more damage than good, making society loathe the hero. After Hancock saves Ray's life, Ray convinces him to take his public relations advice.

Oddly enough Hancock's origins are more spiritual than the average alien or science-experiment-gone-bad superheroes.

Leave the tissues at home, the love story in this plot ends with the satisfaction of a happy divorce.

Although it's not Smith's best, it's still worth a trip to the theaters. Nothing but the big screen can bring justice to all the destruction.
